Hermoupolis, the “city of Hermes”, capital of the island, stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to the harbor. The City Hall, where Miaoulis Square lies ringed with cafes and with seating areas under palm trees. The Archeological museum, the Industrial Museum such as the Apollon theater and numerous churches are located here.
Ano Syros is the second town of Syros and was built by the Venetians at the beginning of the 13th century on the hill of San Giorgio, north-west of Hermoupolis. Ano Syros maintains a medieval atmosphere.
Innumerable steps between narrow streets and houses with coloured doors lead to the top of the town.
From the cathedral church of Saint George, at the top of Ano Syros, visitors have a panoramic view of the neighbouring islands.
Around the island the visitor during the summer period can find numerous beaches like Kini, Delphini, Galissas, Vari, etc.
Throughout the year many cultural events like opera, theatrical shows, art exhibitions and folklore festivals take place around the island.
